American Heart Association ACLS certification is designed for healthcare professionals who participate in the management of cardiovascular emergencies and cardiac arrest. Heart CPR offers both traditional instructor-led ACLS classes and flexible HeartCode® ACLS training with a hands-on skills session.

Who Should Take ACLS?

ACLS is commonly required for healthcare professionals who respond to cardiovascular emergencies, including nurses, physicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other advanced healthcare providers. 

Instructor-Led vs. HeartCode® ACLS

Instructor-led ACLS is completed in a traditional classroom with an instructor and includes the required course content, skills practice, and testing. HeartCode® ACLS combines online coursework with a separate hands-on skills session.

ACLS Certification & Renewal

No matter which ACLS training format you choose, successful completion results in an official American Heart Association ACLS Provider eCard, valid for two years. Whether you choose instructor-led ACLS or HeartCode® ACLS with a hands-on skills session, you receive the same AHA ACLS Provider credential.

American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is advanced training for healthcare professionals who direct or participate in the management of cardiac arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. ACLS builds on BLS skills and includes recognition and management of cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmias, stroke, acute coronary syndromes, and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who manage or participate in cardiovascular emergencies. This commonly includes physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency personnel, and professionals working in emergency medicine, intensive care, critical care, and other clinical settings where ACLS certification is required.
Yes. Heart CPR is an American Heart Association Training Center and offers AHA ACLS Provider and ACLS Renewal training. Students who successfully complete the applicable course requirements receive an official AHA ACLS Provider eCard

Heart CPR offers several ACLS training options, including Instructor-Led ACLS Provider and Renewal classes, ACLS Complete, ACLS Skills Only, and ACLS combination courses with BLS and/or PALS. This allows students to choose between a traditional classroom course and flexible online plus hands-on skills options.

Instructor-Led ACLS is a scheduled classroom course with an AHA instructor and includes required precourse work, classroom instruction, hands-on skills testing, and a written exam. ACLS Complete combines online ACLS training with a self-guided hands-on skills session at a CPR Verification Station™.

Both formats can result in an AHA ACLS Provider eCard after successful completion of all requirements. AHA recognizes instructor-led and self-guided CPR Verification Station learning as ACLS delivery options.

The cognitive portion of ACLS can be completed online through the AHA HeartCode® ACLS program. However, online coursework alone does not result in an AHA ACLS Provider eCard. A hands-on skills session must also be successfully completed.

HeartCode® ACLS is the American Heart Association’s online learning component for ACLS blended learning. Students complete the cognitive portion online using an adaptive learning program and then complete the required hands-on ACLS skills training.
ACLS Complete provides the online ACLS course and hands-on skills training as one complete training pathway. After completing the assigned online portion, students complete their hands-on skills at a Heart CPR CPR Verification Station™. AHA describes HeartCode Complete as combining comprehensive online learning with hands-on skills practice and testing at an approved CPR Verification Station.
ACLS Skills Only is for students who have already completed the required HeartCode ACLS online course and need the hands-on portion to complete their AHA ACLS certification. Proof of HeartCode ACLS completion is required for the skills session.
Yes. If you have already successfully completed the current AHA HeartCode ACLS online course, you can register for an ACLS Skills Only session with Heart CPR. The AHA requires completion of a hands-on session after HeartCode ACLS Online before an ACLS course completion card can be earned.

ACLS Complete does not have a separate classroom written exam. The cognitive portion and assessments are incorporated into the online ACLS course, followed by hands-on skills practice and testing at the CPR Verification Station™. The traditional Instructor-Led ACLS course includes the classroom testing requirements for that course format.

Students attending the Instructor-Led ACLS Provider course must complete the required AHA precourse work and assessment before attending class and bring the required proof of successful completion. The AHA requires the precourse preparation to help ensure students are prepared for the ACLS Provider Course.

Course length depends on the training format. A traditional Instructor-Led ACLS class can take up to approximately 8 hours, while ACLS Complete allows the online portion to be completed separately and the hands-on skills appointment is much shorter. At Heart CPR, most individual CPR Verification Station™ skills appointments are completed in under 30 minutes, although completion time varies by student and course.

An American Heart Association ACLS Provider course completion card is valid for two years. AHA course completion cards remain valid through the end of the month in which the card expires.
Heart CPR offers AHA ACLS Renewal through both Instructor-Led and ACLS Complete training options. Choose the format that meets your employer or school requirements and successfully complete the applicable online, classroom, and/or hands-on skills requirements.
Yes. You can complete your ACLS renewal before your existing card expires. Renewing early can help prevent a lapse in certification, particularly when current ACLS certification is required for employment, clinical assignments, or school.
Yes. Students who successfully complete all applicable American Heart Association ACLS course requirements receive an AHA ACLS Provider eCard. The AHA uses electronic Provider Cards for successful ACLS course completion, and ACLS Provider cards are valid for two years
