PALS Certification & Renewal

American Heart Association PALS certification is designed for healthcare professionals who participate in the assessment and management of critically ill or injured infants and children. Heart CPR offers both traditional instructor-led PALS classes and flexible PALS Complete training with a hands-on skills session.

Who Should Take PALS?

PALS is commonly required for healthcare professionals who respond to pediatric emergencies, including nurses, physicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers who care for infants and children.

Instructor-Led vs. PALS Complete

Instructor-led PALS is completed in a traditional classroom with an instructor and includes the required course content, skills practice, and testing. PALS Complete combines online coursework with a separate self-directed hands-on skills session.

PALS Certification & Renewal

No matter which PALS training format you choose, successful completion results in an official American Heart Association PALS Provider eCard, valid for two years. Whether you choose instructor-led PALS or PALS Complete, you receive the same AHA PALS Provider credential.

PALS Skills Session

The online portion of PALS can be completed through AHA HeartCode® PALS. However, hands-on skills must also be successfully completed to earn an AHA PALS Provider credential.
HeartCode® PALS is the American Heart Association’s online PALS course. After completing the online portion, students complete the required hands-on skills session to finish their PALS certification.
PALS Complete combines the required AHA PALS online training with a hands-on skills session at a Heart CPR Verification Station™. It provides a flexible alternative to attending a scheduled instructor-led PALS class.

PALS Skills Only is for students who have already completed the appropriate AHA HeartCode® PALS online course and only need to complete the required hands-on skills portion.

Yes. Students who have already completed the appropriate AHA HeartCode® PALS online course can register for a PALS Skills Only session with Heart CPR. You will need your HeartCode PALS completion certificate for the skills session.
PALS Complete does not have a separate classroom written exam. Required testing is incorporated into the HeartCode PALS online course and hands-on skills process.

Students attending an Instructor-Led PALS course must complete the required AHA PALS precourse work before class and bring or provide proof of completion as instructed.

Course length depends on the training format. A traditional Instructor-Led PALS courses may take up to approximately 8 hours and 30 minutes, depending on the course and class.

PALS Complete allows students to complete the online portion separately, and most individual hands-on skills appointments are completed in under 30 minutes

An AHA PALS Provider eCard is valid for two years from the date of successful course completion.
