AHA INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION

Heart CPR is proud to offer American Heart Association Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED Instructor and BLS Instructor courses.

Our team of experienced training educators guide Instructor candidates through a combination of hands-on in classroom and e-learning sessions. Our goal is to maximize Instructor engagement while facilitating effective teaching techniques.

American Heart Association BLS Instructor Course

The BLS Instructor course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to teach American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider and Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED courses. Instructor candidates learn how to use AHA Instructor teaching materials, ensure that students meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation, and follow AHA Instructor and course policies.

BLS Instructor Class FAQs

The American Heart Association BLS Instructor Course is taught in a blended-learning format. Instructor candidates must complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online course followed by an Instructor-Led in-class session.

Course Content:

  • BLS and Heartsaver Instructor Materials
  • HeartCode BLS and Blended Learning
  • Equipment readiness and decontamination
  • How to organize and lead a compliant AHA class
  • How to use AHA materials to maximize student retention
  • Training Center specifics
  • How to manage the AHA website
  • How to administer written exams and skills testing
  • Instructor Renewal process

 

As a BLS Instructor, candidates can teach the following courses:

  • BLS- Basic Life Support (for Healthcare Providers)
  • Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED
  • Heartsaver CPR AED
  • Heartsaver First Aid
  • Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a current AHA BLS Provider card (only AHA BLS cert accepted)
  • Be proficient in your BLS skills
  • Complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online course (sold separately)

Candidates who successfully complete the steps listed below will receive an American Heart Association BLS Instructor certification, valid for two years.

  • Step 1: Have a current American Heart Association BLS Provider certification
  • Step 2: Complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Online course (sold separately)
  • Step 3: Obtain the course manuals: BLS Instructor manual or ebook (sold separately) and BLS Provider manual or ebook (sold separately).
  • Step 4: Complete the in-class session conducted by BLS Training Center Faculty
  • Step 5: Align with Heart CPR Training Center (alignment is automatic for new instructors)
  • Step 6: Successfully be monitored teaching a course (within 90 days of attending the in-class session) – Note: You must have equipment including Manikins, AED trainer and course videos to teach a course for the monitor session.
 

Required Materials:

The American Heart Association requires Instructor candidates to align with an authorized Training Center (TC). All Instructors who complete the BLS Instructor course will automatically be aligned with Heart CPR for 1 year.

The following items are REQUIRED for the class:

  • Proof that you are at least 18 years old (photo ID)
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Provider card
  • BLS Instructor Essentials Online course completion certificate
  • AHA BLS Instructor manual (ebook or printed book)
  • AHA BLS Provider manual (ebook or printed book)

All Instructor candidates must complete a class monitor session with Training Center Faculty with-in 90 days of alignment.

During the monitor session instructor candidates will be evaluated on several key competencies including:

  • Course Delivery
  • Testing and Remediation
  • Professionalism
 

Note: You must have equipment including Manikins, AED trainer and course videos to teach a course for the monitor session.

Upon successful completion of the monitor session, the instructor will receive their Instructor card. Should remediation be required, a new monitor session must be completed with-in the 90 days of alignment.

Program Policies for Instructor Courses

Refund Policy: Class fees are nonrefundable and no refunds will be issued once fees have been submitted. Class materials and supplies such as course manuals and textbooks, CPR masks and all other class supplies are nonrefundable.

Transfer Policy: The class transfer fee is $75.00 and registered participants are required to complete a Online Transfer Request at least 72 hours prior to the class date in order to be eligible to transfer. Transfers will only be granted if space is available in a future class with-in 60 days of the original class date. Only (1) transfer is allowed per registration.

No Show Policy: If a registered participant is a no-show and absent from their scheduled class, the participant will not receive a refund of any kind and is not eligible for a class transfer.

Class Space is Limited: If a registered participant decides to leave the class for any reason, they will NOT receive a refund and will NOT be eligible to transfer to a different class.

Cancelled Class Policy: Heart CPR reserves the right to cancel classes as needed. In the event a class is canceled registered participants will be offered a transfer to a different class at no additional charge or a full refund.
