TRAINING COURSES

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including a heart attack or near drowning, in which a person has stopped breathing.

When the heart stops, lack of oxygenated blood can cause brain damage in only a few short minutes and cause death within 8 to 10 minutes. CPR can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other organs until more definitive medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, nearly half a million Americans die from a cardiac arrest every year and more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year.

In the event of a cardiac arrest, an automated external defibrillator (AED) can aid is saving a life. However, only about a quarter of Americans say there is an AED at their workplace.

Effective CPR and AED care can more than double a person’s chance of survival. A person faced with an emergency such as a heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, or choking may be saved if someone at the scene have had the lifesaving skills and techniques that can be acquired through CPR training.

Heart CPR offers affordable CPR and AED certification classes taught by expert instructors. CPR and AED certification options include Instructor Led (classroom only training), Blended Learning (online + in-person skill training) and Online only CPR courses.

Take a class

Many people do not have the knowledge to aid others when it comes to First Aid and CPR emergencies, and often don’t know the proper way to help themselves.

Everyone can learn how to provide First Aid, CPR and AED care. However, many people feel helpless to act during an emergency because they either do not know how to administer care or their certification has lapsed. The life you save could be someone you love because more than 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home.

First Aid and CPR in the Workplace: According to a report from OSHA, First Aid emergencies often happen at work and nearly 10,000 cardiac arrest situations occur in the workplace each year, yet less than half of U.S. employees have been trained in First Aid, CPR and AED.  Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees and this includes proper training in First Aid, CPR and AED.

Heart CPR offers affordable First Aid, CPR and AED certification classes for individuals and groups throughout Southern California. We offer certification courses by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Safety.

Class delivery options include Instructor Led (classroom only training), Blended Learning (online + in-person skill training) and Online only courses.

BLS refers to Basic Life Support which is a type of care that first-responders, healthcare providers and public safety professionals provide to anyone who is experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory distress or an obstructed airway. It requires knowledge and skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using automated external defibrillators (AED) and relieving airway obstructions in patients of every age.

Heart CPR teaches American Heart Association BLS Provider and BLS Renewal certification classes.

During the BLS course, healthcare professionals learn how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

BLS Providers learn to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Do you need BLS or CPR?
The difference between BLS and CPR is that the BLS class is an advanced CPR/AED course used by healthcare professionals. If you are not a medical/healthcare professional, the best class for you would be a standard CPR/AED class or CPR/AED with First Aid class.

Course Decription:

ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) is an advanced course that builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR, and high-performance team dynamics.

During the ACLS class, healthcare professionals learn:

  • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED
  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
  • Airway management
  • Related pharmacology
  • Management of ACS and stroke
  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team

Certification:

Participants who successfully complete the ACLS course, receive a American Heart Association ACLS Provider eCard valid for 2 years.

BLS, ACLS, PALS and CPR Classes Near La Verne

raining Near Foothill Boulevard and the Pomona Valley

Our La Verne training location at 2272 Foothill Blvd is convenient for students coming from San Dimas, Claremaremont, Pomona, Glendora, Montclair, Upland, Covina, and nearby foothill communities. This location is a strong option for nursing students, medical office staff, dental teams, EMS personnel, caregivers, and local employees who need a nearby place to complete certification.

Course Options for Different Requirements

Heart CPR offers several certification paths because not every student needs the same class. BLS is commonly required for healthcare providers and clinical students. ACLS is for providers involved in adult cardiac and respiratory emergencies. PALS is for providers who may respond to pediatric emergencies. CPR/AED and First Aid/CPR/AED classes are available for people who need safety training outside a clinical setting.

A Faster Way to Complete Hands-On Training

Many Heart CPR classes use a blended learning format. Students complete the online portion before arriving at the training site, then attend the in-person session for practical skills review and testing. For many students, the facility visit takes about one hour. Once all course requirements are successfully completed, students can leave with certification in hand.

Certification Options Available in La Verne

BLS Provider and BLS Renewal

BLS is a provider-level CPR/AED course for healthcare professionals, medical students, nursing students, dental providers, EMTs, and others who may respond to cardiac arrest, breathing emergencies, or airway obstruction. Students practice high-quality CPR, AED use, ventilation support, choking response, and coordinated team care for adults, children, and infants. Heart CPR offers both BLS Provider and BLS Renewal options.

ACLS Provider and ACLS Renewal

ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who participate in adult advanced cardiovascular care. The course reviews cardiac arrest response, rhythm recognition, advanced airway support, pharmacology, stroke, acute coronary syndromes, peri-arrest conditions, and team communication during resuscitation scenarios. Heart CPR offers ACLS Provider classes for first-time students and ACLS Renewal classes for providers updating a current card.

PALS Provider and PALS Renewal

PALS is for healthcare providers who may care for infants and children during serious medical emergencies. Students review pediatric assessment, respiratory distress and failure, shock, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, and high-performance team response. PALS is often required for emergency, pediatric, critical care, urgent care, EMS, and specialty care settings. Provider and Renewal options are available based on the current schedule.

CPR/AED and First Aid Certification

Heart CPR also offers CPR/AED and First Aid/CPR/AED classes for teachers, coaches, childcare workers, office teams, construction crews, fitness professionals, and community members. These courses focus on practical response skills such as CPR, AED use, choking response, bleeding control, injury care, sudden illness response, and basic first aid.

Multiple Certification Options

Some healthcare students and professionals need more than one card for a job, school deadline, onboarding process, or renewal cycle. Depending on class availability, students may be able to complete combination options such as BLS with ACLS or BLS with PALS. This can reduce the number of separate dates you need to schedule while still meeting required course standards.

Private Group Certification

Private group classes are available for organizations that want a dedicated session for their staff. This works well for medical offices, dental teams, school employees, childcare providers, outpatient clinics, senior care teams, and businesses with several people due for certification or renewal. Private classes can support staff onboarding, annual training, inspection preparation, accreditation needs, and internal safety requirements.

FAQs About CPR and Healthcare Certification in La Verne

Which Certification Class Should I Take?

Choose the class required by your employer, school, licensing board, or clinical program. Healthcare professionals and students often need BLS, ACLS, or PALS. People outside healthcare may need CPR/AED, First Aid/CPR/AED, or a childcare-focused class. If your requirement names a specific course, register for that exact option.

Why Do Healthcare Students Usually Need BLS?

BLS is commonly required because it teaches CPR/AED skills at a healthcare provider level. Students practice adult, child, and infant response, ventilation support, choking care, and team-based resuscitation. Nursing students, medical assistants, dental students, EMTs, and other clinical students often need BLS before starting patient care or clinical rotations.

Is ACLS Required for All Healthcare Workers?

No. ACLS is usually required for healthcare providers whose roles involve adult advanced cardiovascular emergencies. Nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, physicians, emergency department staff, ICU teams, and providers in procedure-based settings may need ACLS. Students should confirm whether their employer or program requires BLS, ACLS, or another certification.

What Is the Purpose of PALS Certification?

PALS prepares healthcare providers to respond to serious emergencies involving infants and children. The course covers pediatric assessment, respiratory emergencies, shock, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, and team communication. It is commonly required in pediatric, emergency, urgent care, ICU, EMS, and specialty care settings.

Can I Renew an Existing BLS, ACLS, or PALS Card?

Yes. Heart CPR offers renewal classes for BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Renewal options are intended for students with a current or recently expiring certification who need to refresh course content, complete skills testing, and earn a new certification period. Check your requirement before registering so you choose the correct renewal or provider course.

How Long Is the Facility Visit?

Many classes use blended learning, so students finish the online portion before coming to the training location. For many students, the in-person session takes about one hour. The facility visit is focused on skills practice, instructor review, and testing. After successful completion, you can leave with certification in hand.

Can I Get Same-Day Certification?

Yes. Same-day certification is available for many Heart CPR classes after successful completion of all course requirements. Students must complete the online coursework when required, attend the hands-on session, and pass the required skills and testing components. Once complete, certification can be issued without a long wait in many cases.

Can I Take BLS With ACLS or PALS?

Combination options may be available depending on the current schedule. These options are helpful for healthcare providers who need multiple cards for a new job, clinical program, renewal cycle, or onboarding deadline. BLS with ACLS or BLS with PALS may allow students to complete more than one requirement with fewer separate appointments.

Do You Offer Group Training for La Verne Businesses?

Yes. Heart CPR offers group training for local employers, schools, healthcare offices, dental practices, childcare programs, fitness centers, care facilities, and other organizations. Depending on the course and group size, training may be available onsite at your location or as a private group class.

What Areas Near La Verne Do You Serve?

Heart CPR serves students from La Verne, San Dimas, Claremont, Pomona, Glendora, Montclair, Upland, Covina, Azusa, Diamond Bar, and surrounding Pomona Valley and foothill communities. Students choose the La Verne location when they need CPR/AED, First Aid, BLS, ACLS, or PALS certification close to home, school, or work.
