Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including a heart attack or near drowning, in which a person has stopped breathing.
When the heart stops, lack of oxygenated blood can cause brain damage in only a few short minutes and cause death within 8 to 10 minutes. CPR can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other organs until more definitive medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, nearly half a million Americans die from a cardiac arrest every year and more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year.
In the event of a cardiac arrest, an automated external defibrillator (AED) can aid is saving a life. However, only about a quarter of Americans say there is an AED at their workplace.
Effective CPR and AED care can more than double a person’s chance of survival. A person faced with an emergency such as a heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, or choking may be saved if someone at the scene have had the lifesaving skills and techniques that can be acquired through CPR training.
Heart CPR offers affordable CPR and AED certification classes taught by expert instructors. CPR and AED certification options include Instructor Led (classroom only training), Blended Learning (online + in-person skill training) and Online only CPR courses.

Many people do not have the knowledge to aid others when it comes to First Aid and CPR emergencies, and often don’t know the proper way to help themselves.
Everyone can learn how to provide First Aid, CPR and AED care. However, many people feel helpless to act during an emergency because they either do not know how to administer care or their certification has lapsed. The life you save could be someone you love because more than 80 percent of cardiac arrests occur at home.
First Aid and CPR in the Workplace: According to a report from OSHA, First Aid emergencies often happen at work and nearly 10,000 cardiac arrest situations occur in the workplace each year, yet less than half of U.S. employees have been trained in First Aid, CPR and AED. Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees and this includes proper training in First Aid, CPR and AED.
Heart CPR offers affordable First Aid, CPR and AED certification classes for individuals and groups throughout Southern California. We offer certification courses by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Safety.
Class delivery options include Instructor Led (classroom only training), Blended Learning (online + in-person skill training) and Online only courses.

BLS refers to Basic Life Support which is a type of care that first-responders, healthcare providers and public safety professionals provide to anyone who is experiencing cardiac arrest, respiratory distress or an obstructed airway. It requires knowledge and skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using automated external defibrillators (AED) and relieving airway obstructions in patients of every age.
Heart CPR teaches American Heart Association BLS Provider and BLS Renewal certification classes.
During the BLS course, healthcare professionals learn how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.
BLS Providers learn to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).

Do you need BLS or CPR?
The difference between BLS and CPR is that the BLS class is an advanced CPR/AED course used by healthcare professionals. If you are not a medical/healthcare professional, the best class for you would be a standard CPR/AED class or CPR/AED with First Aid class.
Course Decription:
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) is an advanced course that builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR, and high-performance team dynamics.
During the ACLS class, healthcare professionals learn:

Heart CPR offers BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification classes for healthcare providers, medical students, dental professionals, EMS personnel, and clinical teams in Carson and nearby South Bay communities. These American Heart Association courses help students meet employer, school, hospital, and licensing requirements while practicing the response skills used during adult, pediatric, and team-based emergencies. Our blended format keeps the in-person portion efficient, so many students only need about one hour at the facility for skills practice and testing.
Our Carson training site at 21601 S. Avalon Blvd Unit A gives students a practical option near Long Beach, Torrance, Gardena, Wilmington, Harbor City, Compton, and San Pedro. This location works well for healthcare workers commuting from hospitals, clinics, dental offices, care facilities, ambulance companies, and school programs throughout the South Bay and Harbor area.
Heart CPR provides certification options for people with different requirements. Healthcare students may need BLS before clinical rotations. Nurses, respiratory therapists, paramedics, and emergency department staff may need ACLS or PALS for their role. Teachers, coaches, childcare staff, fitness professionals, and workplace teams may need CPR/AED or First Aid/CPR/AED. Our class options are designed to help students choose the correct certification and complete it without an overly long classroom day.
Many Heart CPR classes use a blended learning structure. Students complete the assigned online coursework before arriving for the hands-on portion at the training facility. During the in-person session, the instructor reviews skills, answers questions, and evaluates the required course components. After successful completion, students can leave with their certification in hand.
BLS is the standard CPR/AED certification for many healthcare professionals and students. It covers high-quality chest compressions, AED use, ventilation skills, choking response, and coordinated care for adults, children, and infants. Heart CPR offers BLS Provider and BLS Renewal classes for students who need a first-time card, a current renewal, or proof of certification for employment, school, or healthcare program requirements.
ACLS is intended for healthcare providers involved in adult emergency cardiovascular care. The course builds on BLS skills and covers rhythm recognition, advanced airway support, cardiac arrest response, peri-arrest care, stroke, acute coronary syndromes, pharmacology, and team communication. Heart CPR offers ACLS Provider and ACLS Renewal options for students who need initial certification or recertification.
PALS is designed for healthcare professionals who may respond to emergencies involving infants and children. Students review pediatric assessment, respiratory emergencies, shock, arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, and high-performance team response. This course is often required for pediatric, emergency, critical care, urgent care, EMS, and specialty care settings. Provider and Renewal classes are available based on the current schedule.
Some students need more than one certification at the same time. Depending on availability, Heart CPR may offer combination options such as ACLS with BLS or PALS with BLS. This is helpful for healthcare professionals who are starting a new role, renewing multiple cards, preparing for clinical rotations, or trying to meet a deadline with fewer separate class dates.
Heart CPR provides onsite training for healthcare offices, dental practices, outpatient centers, schools, childcare programs, fitness facilities, businesses, and local organizations in and around Carson. Our instructors bring the equipment and lead the hands-on portion at your location. This helps employers keep staff certification current while reducing travel time, schedule conflicts, and missed work hours.
Private group classes are also available for teams that want to train together. This option works well for medical offices, dental sedation teams, clinics, care facilities, school staff, and companies that need several employees certified or renewed at the same time. A private class can also help with onboarding, inspection preparation, policy updates, or annual training requirements.
Your required class usually depends on your employer, school, license, or clinical program. Healthcare professionals and students often need BLS, ACLS, or PALS through the American Heart Association. People outside healthcare may only need CPR/AED or First Aid/CPR/AED. If you are not sure, check the exact course name required before you register.
BLS is commonly required for healthcare providers and clinical students because it teaches CPR and AED skills at a professional level. The course includes adult, child, and infant response, ventilation skills, team-based resuscitation, and choking care. Nurses, EMTs, dental workers, medical assistants, physical therapists, and nursing students often need BLS certification.
ACLS is usually required for providers who participate in adult emergency care, especially in hospitals, emergency departments, ICUs, outpatient procedure settings, and EMS environments. The course covers advanced cardiovascular emergencies, rhythm interpretation, airway management, medications, stroke and ACS care, and team leadership during resuscitation scenarios.
PALS is for healthcare providers who may respond to serious pediatric emergencies. This can include pediatric nurses, emergency department staff, paramedics, respiratory therapists, urgent care providers, ICU teams, and clinicians in specialty settings. The course focuses on recognizing and responding to respiratory distress, shock, arrhythmias, and cardiac arrest in infants and children.
Yes. Heart CPR offers renewal options for BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Renewal classes are intended for students who already have a current or recently expiring certification and need to complete the required review, skills testing, and course components for a new certification period. Students should confirm the renewal requirements before registering.
Many certification classes use a blended format, which allows you to complete the online coursework before the in-person session. For many students, the facility portion takes about one hour. During that time, you complete hands-on practice, skills review, and testing. After successful completion, you can leave with your certification in hand.
Depending on the schedule, combination options may be available for students who need more than one card. For example, some healthcare professionals choose BLS with ACLS or BLS with PALS when they have multiple renewal deadlines or new job requirements. This can make the certification process easier to fit around work or school.
Heart CPR offers American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification options, which are commonly required by hospitals, clinics, healthcare schools, dental practices, EMS agencies, and other medical employers. Since requirements can vary by organization, students should verify the exact certification type their employer or school will accept.
Yes. Heart CPR offers onsite group training for businesses, healthcare offices, clinics, dental practices, schools, childcare centers, and other organizations. Our instructors bring the training equipment and teach the class at your location when scheduling allows. This is helpful for employers who need multiple team members certified or renewed together.
Heart CPR serves students from Carson, Long Beach, Torrance, Gardena, Wilmington, Harbor City, Compton, San Pedro, Lomita, Lakewood, and other nearby South Bay and Los Angeles County communities. Students choose the Carson location when they want a convenient training site for BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPR/AED, or First Aid certification.
